Ty-Ron Mayes has been immersed in the world of fashion, beauty and style for well over two decades. He styled fashion editorials and layouts around the world, including over 140 high fashion covers. From the red carpet to celebrity sittings; to America’s Next Top Model and New York Fashion Week, Ty-Ron is the glue between the fashion houses, celebrities, the magazines and the red carpet. With his high-profile Supermodel shoots, celebrity sittings and former role as a fashion personality and “The First Lead Wardrobe Stylist to America’s Next top Model”, Ty-Ron has been bestowed with the title of “Celebrity Stylist”. As the Fashion Editor of The Untitled Magazine, as well as, Contributing Editor of other mags, Ty-Ron Mayes understands and executes fashion from several points of view. From classic to edgy, Ty-Ron has styled them all. His career was officially launched by the late legendary photographer, Francesco Scavullo where he had the extraordinary opportunity of styling several magazine covers including L’Ofecial, American Cosmopolitan and several covers featuring Oprah Winfrey. Oprah embraced Ty-Ron under Scavullo’s lens and Mayes became the recipient of “The Oprah Effect”. Ty-Ron Mayes has been working with Tyra Banks extensively resulting in 25 covers throughout the years. Ty-Ron has also styled international editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire and Ladies Home Journal magazines. How do you define a guru?*
I believe a guru to be an extremely knowledgeable person. An individual who has lived life, traveled extensively, amassed life experiences, is an expert in their field and has the ability to inspire people while effortlessly articulating directives that can help navigate people’s aspirations in life.
What does a normal work day look like for you, starting from the moment you wake up*
I don’t have normal days. I am a creative and being that person allows me and my day to be as fluid as water. The moment I wake up I silently give my respects to God. Then I take all of my supplements on an empty stomach with a hot water and lemon chaser.

Morning
What time do you wake up?
I wake up according to my daily tasks. Sometimes it’s early like 7am so I can be on set. Or it can be 4 am to catch a flight. It’s all part of that rockstar/ stylist life.
What do you have for breakfast?
Coffee, Dr. Kellyann’s bone broth and a diet pill! It helps me control my food intake throughout the day.
Do you work out?
I am working out a bit more than usual because NYFW is coming and I have been modeling and acting. Since I have been stepping in front of the camera with on-camera jobs like ANTM, And Just Like That, Gossip Girl, Three Women, as well as, being featured in magazine layouts and on covers… I am more conscious of my silhouette and being sample size.
Do you have a special routine to get you in the zone? Meditation type maybe
Yes. When walking in fashion shows, modeling in layouts and presenting myself on tv shows, there are some chants and words of affirmations that I say that gets me in the zone. But, I’m going to keep them to myself.
What time do you get to work?*
Early! In my business… if you are on time, you are late!
Noon
What do you have for Lunch? Do you even eat lunch?
I usually eat sushi for lunch like I did today. Or I love a gyro salad. And full sugar Coca Cola…. It’s my coffee replacement. I avoid foods that make me sleepy and unproductive.
Are working lunches something that works for you?
I do not care for working lunches. In fact, I often had to put my foot down at many shoots. I need to step away, eat lunch and decompress for a moment. And, I even had to fight with clients to let them know that I am a human being and I have to go to the bathroom. I am very grateful to be popular but, I need some time to myself for those basic human functions.
How much time do you take for yourself during lunch?
I require a solid hour. Then I can eat, powder my nose and return a call or two… then back to the shoot I go.
Afternoon
How much work are you hoping to achieve in your working hours?
I need to get everything done on my to do list. When you are styling and designing high concept shoots, it’s all the little things that make a difference. The devil is in the details.
Do you take a break in between?
I am learning how to take breaks, But in my line of work breaks are more luxurious than the newest Birkin bag drop!
Evening
How does settling in look like for you
As a highly sought after stylist, I get really beat up. It is not just artistic, it is extremely physical. Over the last few years, I will lay on my sofa, watch my favorite show while I am using my massage gun all over my body. Massage therapy, my favorite Housewives and some champagne weakly helps me to unwind.
Do you turn off your phone when you’re getting emails from work
No… I just answer everyone at my earliest convenience.
What does a normal wind-down look like for you
I love to cook. The more exotic the better… for me it is really relaxing. Tonight I am making lamb tangine over bastmati rice.
