BONI & MOTT – Nolita’s Mediterranean Treasure

by | Dec 23, 2024

Boni and Mott Mediterranean restaurant located in the Nolita neighborhood of New York

Boni & Mott is a Mediterranean-inspired culinary destination nestled in the spirit of Nolita. At Boni & Mott, every dish tells a story of fresh ingredients rooted in a fusion of Mediterranean cultures spanning not only from the South of Europe but from the North of Africa to the Eastern Mediterranean sea. The inventive menu here draws inspiration from their Algerian heritage skillfully blending global techniques with an incomparable medley of spices and herbs.

Boni’s Mussels

The name itself pays homage to deep roots. “Boni” honors French owner Jacques Boni, the mentor who taught owner Mehdi Mokrani everything he knows about the hospitality industry. “Mott” celebrates the vibrant and close Nolita community. With over 20 years of experience combined, Salim Ben and Mehdi Mokrani artfully blend tradition and community, infusing their love for both into the quaint yet elegant space on Mott Street. Adding a unique touch, the restaurant features fascinating mural-like wallpaper dedicated to the city’s small business, adorned with friends’ faces and city wildlife – it’s truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Chef’s Slow Roasted Chicken

The ingenious concepts have no bounds as the menu offers extraordinary diversity from fish, produce and meats. Ranging from family-style to elegant, Boni & Mott is fit to accommodate a variety of palettes. Start with the perfectly tender chargrilled octopus, over a bed of golden breaded eggplant – a harmony of textures that set the tone. Boni’s Mussels are a standout, marrying the smoky flavors of chorizo with the tartness of green apples and a medley of spices. We were lucky enough to preview one of the menu’s upcoming stars- a decadent cheesy double patty smash burger.

The Chef’s slow-roasted chicken is a masterpiece, its savory flavors are enhanced by a caramelized gravy sauce and lemon wedge. And just when you think you can’t indulge any further, the warm bread pudding arrives, drizzled with rich caramel. There is an exquisite selection of wine options- some priced at $710. Fortunately, the knowledgeable staff is more than happy to guide you with the perfect pairing for your meal.

The ambiance combines refined elegance with the relaxed charm of the Mediterranean, creating the perfect setting to unwind and indulge. An exquisite experience that transcends mainstream flavors and culinary flair and don’t forget to ask Medhi about the wallpaper and the stories behind it. For more on Boni & Mott visit @boniandmott or www.boniandmott.com.
