Sex positivity and sexual expression has had an unspoken, almost taboo quality to it (never around the dinner table, right?). Native New Yorker Daniel Saynt noticed the shock and avoidance all his life—and it was this thought process the New Society for Wellness (NSFW), a private members club that focuses on sexual health and cannabis wellness, was born. When speaking on the beginnings of NSFW, Saynt says, “I think there was a lot of fear in us being so open about this and a lot of people felt sex parties and things like that happening in New York needed to be quiet.” He continues by saying, “Why are we treating this like it’s something secretive and shameful? It’s something that has been a part of human society since the beginning.”
Saynt, who calls himself the Chief Conspirator of NSFW, built a place that helps people explore their sexuality as well as discover new things and meet like-minded people. Saynt explains, “I think NSFW is now more of a community than anything else. It’s a community of people who are sex positive and want to explore things sexually or just feel more comfortable with their sexuality.” Saynt goes on to say,” That seems to be what we’re mostly attracting now, kind of this group of people who just want to be able to explore freely.
Partying at NSFW
Whenever we talk about places like NSFW, we automatically think orgies, everyone running around naked, and sex toys galore. While all of that may be true, NSFW is so much more.
Aside from the parties you’d expect, NSFW also holds classes such as This Class Sucks, which is all about oral sex and Learn the Ropes, which covers everything bondage. “It’s very much about the performances and getting them excited about sex. I think it’s also the friendships that they can make here.” He continues by saying, “Once you create that environment that generally feels safe and judgement free for people, and you bring people and give them that opportunity to talk about sex in an open way, you start seeing new bonds form.
The Sex Guru and His Kingdom
With NSFW’s unprecedented success in giving people the space to explore parts of themselves they may otherwise not have, many people looking at Saynt as a leader in the kink community and have dubbed him “The Sex Club Guru.” When speaking on the illustrious title, he explains, “I think it’s a very double-edged sword. I created this space in a very personal way. This was something I always wanted to do, and a place I always wanted to be able to go to.”
While Saynt says praise is a good thing, he notes that it shouldn’t always be trusted and that it can come off as overindulgent. “I’m nervous about what comes with being a bigger target and a bigger person in a space that means so much to me. It takes away certain elements of what I made NSFW for in the beginning. But in exchange, it gives NSFW to so many more people. I think that’s worth it.”
Expanding Sex Positivity
Expansion is the logical next step, and Saynt is looking to bring the sex positivity of NSFW to other areas outside NYC, with a goal of at least five clubhouses in the next five years. “Every day I get two to three messages from people asking about brands like NSFW in their city or where they can find something like this or if I know of any other communities where they live,” Saynt says. “New York is overly blessed with sexual activity and sex parties, so we started looking at cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Texas, Nashville or even Miami, which you would assume has like a stronger sexual presence. There is nothing like this there. There is nothing like NSFW.” He concludes by saying, “I’m really excited to see people who aren’t New Yorkers have a place where they can go to explore how they feel. I’m curious to see how that changes culture in America.” ns-fw.com
