RYNN  A Thai Experience to Remember

by | Apr 9, 2024

Even a superficial glimpse of my restaurant reviews will implicate the pure admiration I have for the culinary arts. A transformative journey I cherish from one kitchen to the next. Thus when I received an invitation to Rynn, or “รินน์”, a Thai restaurant nestled in the heart of the East Village, I happily obliged. Not all Pad Thai are the same – the head chef may be off, the signature dish may be sold out, or I may have just landed a new server whose aptitude has not fully blossomed. Fortunately, this was not the case. At Rynn the art of culinary creations and mixology breathes life into each patron. Each dish is a meticulously crafted fusion of ingredients drawing inspiration from cherished memories and childhood experiences. Nostalgia intertwines with innovation, resulting in an unparalleled dining adventure where every bite and sip evokes a sense of sentiment beyond comparison.

Owners

Make no mistake, this fusion of homage and modernism is internationally crafted. The powerhouses behind Rynn’s concept are a dynamic female trio including Natchaya Klinkajo, Serena Thongsri, and Hataichanok Pruksaprawpong, who embody a diverse journey of culinary expertise and cultural exploration.

Natchaya Klinkajo, part of a Governor family, navigated her academic years across various locations before venturing alone at the age of 12. With a background in finance and hospitality, she honed her skills in the U.S. before returning to Thailand briefly. Eventually settling in New York, Natchaya pursued training in proprietary trading before finding her passion in hospitality, working with acclaimed chefs and launching Rynn with a focus on elevating New York’s cocktail scene.

Serena Thongsri, hailing from rural Thailand, embraced cultural exploration early on, mastering Mandarin during her studies. Her hospitality career began in the U.S., where she excelled in marketing and customer relations. With her multilingual abilities and vibrant energy, Serena contributes to Rynn’s success by managing social media and fostering strong customer relationships.

Hataichanok Pruksaprawpong, inspired by her mother’s culinary legacy, pursued formal culinary education before joining the hospitality industry in New York. Passionate about sharing Thai cuisine with the world, she collaborates with her partners to craft authentic yet stylish dishes for Rynn, blending tradition with innovation.

Beverages

The journey of libations at Rynn is nothing shy of a symphony of flavors. Tantalizing the taste buds to compliment the rich cultural heritage of Thai cuisine. Whether you’re indulging in classic favorites such as Satay, with its Turmeric-infused rum and cucumber cordial, or the elegant Sodalite, a Yakult Clarified Negroni, you will surely savor the essence of Thailand. Nothing rang more true then our first drink of the evening, the iconic Thai Iced Tea ($7) also known as Cha Yen. A wondrous earthy drink marrying black tea leaves, spices, and condensed milk that made it hard to resist guzzling in one gulp.

Moving on to other innovative concoctions, we ordered the fiery El Picante ($19), a Tequila Reposado creation with a kick of chili, orange liqueur and egg whites. Followed by the Morning Dew ($19), a smoky Mezcal, Aloe Vera, Lychee topped with fresh mint. The cool essence of this smooth drink cleanse the palette without overly complicated notes – setting the mood for a delectable journey ahead.

Whatever your preference, Rynn’s cocktail menu promises an unforgettable experience, with each sip a celebration of craftsmanship and creativity. For those seeking a truly unique experience, try A Glass of Grass, combining Pandan Infused Vodka, Lemongrass, Coconut juice, and Grass jelly. All the same, for those seeking something stronger, the Make it Stronger cocktail, with Truffle washed Bourbon and Demerara, is sure to satisfy.

Food

The balancing act of spice was a daring one. We juggled between I like a kick to how hot is hot as we read through the menu selection. The wonderful staff, which unbeknownst to us at the time were the owners, recommended a glorious range of options to ignite but not overpower the senses. We opted to kick off our culinary journey with Larb Peek Gai Tod (spicy crispy chicken $13) and Yum Geaw Tod (spicy crispy wonton $13).

Continuing our gastronomic dinner journey we moved on to our main entrees. Engulfed with an array of enticing choices from the rich and creamy Massaman Tofu to the aromatic Kra Prao Rib eye stir-fry. To satisfy PAD wok options like the classic Pad Thai Goong and the flavorful Kee Mao Goong Pla muk. We went with Nua Yang Jew (grilled rib eye with soft boiled egg $28), Nam Ya Pu (lump crab curry with noodles $28) and the Ped Yang Roti (roasted duck Panang curry flatbread $26). As if we could fit another morsel in our mouths, we had to complete your culinary adventure with desserts like the beloved Mango Sticky Rice ($15).

At Rynn, every dish is a masterpiece, crafted to elevate your dining experience to new heights. Whether you’re a seasoned Thai food aficionado or a newcomer to the cuisine, Rynn promises an unforgettable journey. Here, flavors pirouette on your palate, weaving a tapestry of vibrant Thai cuisine that captivates and delights. Beyond the culinary delights, Rynn believes in the unifying power of food and drinks; they have the ability to forge connections, spark conversations, and commemorate life’s precious moments.
