Who is the true you?
“The true Sasha Colby behind all of the glitz and glamour, drag, and all the fun things that come along with being Sasha Colby is actually just, a flawed healing human that is going through the same experience as anyone else. I really try to strive every day to be the best version of myself that I can be.”
What is your passion?
“I am a very passionate person in general. But my true passion is knowledge, to be quite honest. I have a thirst for understanding the human condition. I really love history and ancient civilizations. Like how we as humans have grown and come to this point that we are now in this time in history. I find it so fascinating.”
When do you feel the most authentic?
“I think I feel the most authentic when I’m alone – I get to be neurotic – I get to be playful. I get to be lazy or energetic, but I really get to unwind and unmask. That’s really when I’m the most authentic. At the same time, believe it or not, I am authentically myself on stage. It’s a duality, the physical unmasking when I’m alone and then the unmasking of my transition. Self-consciously or my spirit source energy has always strived to be stubbornly authentic. To be a transformation you have to be pretty set in your authenticity to want to even like physical transition. Yet still, I have insecurities and feelings that we all get from our traumas or triggers that have maybe slowed down the process at times, but I think it’s refined my authenticity and I love that.”
Why is it important for your voice to be heard?
I think it’s really important for my voice to be heard because it’s uniquely my own voice. Equally, I think it’s important that everyone be heard. Everyone has a story that has an origin so I feel it is important for people to feel inspired. But my voice in particular is a voice that doesn’t necessarily get to be heard. Even if it’s the same thing that has never been said before. There’s only one Sasha Colby.
We’re so emotionally charged right now with the voting season and political landscape, many voices are screaming a lot of hate and injustice. I think the more voices that are being silenced should come together so we find strength amongst each other to take a stance in the dark.
