The Soul of Brunch Sweet Catch BK

by | Jun 5, 2023

Sweet Catch BK launched its official brunch menu this Spring season. Coined as the soul of brunch. Sweet Catch invites guests to experience the joy of traditional “soul-food” meals full of warmth, passion and beloved nostalgia. The critically-acclaimed fast-casual, seafood focused, restaurant is steeped in Co-owner, Ka-wana Jefferson’s cultural Southern heritage. Located within the heart of Prospect Lefferts Garden neighborhood of Brooklyn, Sweet Catch welcomes diners to venture into a sweet southern experience.

The seasoned NYC restaurateur, Jefferson, who also co-owns and operates Sweet BK Bar and Lost Borough Ice Cream continues to grow her hospitality empire. She held nothing back when opening her third restaurant Sweet Catch BK. The fast trending Brooklyn hotspot opened its doors in September 2022. The menu offered fresh seasonal seafood, brunch bites, soul food entrees and seasonal cocktails. The decor, a coastal meets chic design, 1,100 square foot venue. The captivating, ocean inspired haven can seat up to 50 seated guests in the main dining and they also have a backyard patio.

As if the concept was not enticing enough, the menu delivers a packed flavor with a punch. The cuisine is inspired by the Gullah Geechee people. The descendants of enslaved Africans who settled in the coastal American South, which is where Jefferson is from. This style of food is best described as a fusion between West and Central African cooking and lowcountry ingredients. Lowcountry ingredients such as black eye peas and grits were the foods best available to the people at the time. The people living off the coast  inspired a fusion of seafood and southern classics like macaroni and cheese.

Sweet Catch captures the homage of tradition through the likes of their Chesapeake Crab Dip served with plantains ($21), Biscuits and Gravy ($22) or their SweetCatch signature boil ($55). In addition to, an ingenious spin on fried lobster & shrimp on a cornbread waffle with maple syrup, parsley, and roast garlic butter ($36). The brunch menu boasts a service that is notably divine in both presentation and taste factors. There is a full bar, carafes for groups to enjoy and non-alcholic options like sorrel fruit punch. The menu is skillfully selected delivering a euphoric adventure at this seafood southern cultural heritage montage.

Mouthwatering aroma serenades the air the minute you walk through the door. Beautiful greenery cascades from the ceiling, while fish-scale tile wraps around the bar, showcasing a coastal-inspired sanctuary to dine. A neon sign with the quintessential positive message, “The World is your Oyster”, is nestled in between green foliage. Furthermore, a swing is positioned in front for a memorable instagrammable moment. A refreshing atmosphere compared the bustling city streets.

Sweet Catch BK brunch is a bona-fide vibe. From homemade pancakes with sweet potato, to cornbread avocado toast, topped with a fried oyster, whipped goat cheese, and pickled red onions, to tofu scramble made with marinated tofu, golden garlic, and home fries. Sweet Catch delivers an memorable experience perfect for celebrating with friends or simply fulfilling your passion for seafood made with soul.
