The Consulate Midtown, quaintly positioned on West 56th street, eloquently blends French modernization with new American cuisine. The sister location to its Upper West side originale, The Consulate Midtown invites guests to explore a sophisticated, modern-chic dining experience. True to its name, the restaurants’ menu presents a diplomatic balance of global flavors, featuring whimsical cocktails, refined appetizers, and indulgent main courses like roasted Branzino and the TomHawk steak for two.
The sprawling two-story restaurant offers the perfect setting for a romantic dinner, a corporate lunch or a vibrant night out in the city. With its warm candle-light glow , Parisian black-and-white tiling, and a striking spiral staircase, the ambiance evokes the allure of a romantic femme-noir film rather than a traditional dining space.

Our celebration – a birthday dinner- was a true testament to The Consulate Midtown’s dedication to culinary artistry. The evening began with fresh raw-bar selections, followed by classic appetizers with a contemporary twist. We opted for two dozen Little Neck Clams ($3.75ea) served with mignonette and hot sauce and the Crab Cake filled with lumps of crab, celery, shallots, fennel, sriracha mayonnaise, lime slaw ($32). The menu continued with beautifully crafted mains – our picks, the revered Short-rib Cavatelli filled with braised short ribs, served with cavatelli pasta and herb ricotta. Along with a 140z Ribeye steak ($69). For your steak lovers there are four sauce choices, bordelaise, bernaise, blue cheese or green peppercorn ($7ea) – and we indulged in them all. The meal was rounded out with a side of rich, creamed spinach ($14).
To end the night on a sweet note , we indulged in a classic Crème Brûleé topped with seasonal berries and a celebratory chocolate birthday plaque ($15).
